David has a special interest - as well as extensive training, experience and skills - in children’s vision and vision development, an area uncommon in Canberra optometry. Since completing his Masters degree in this area, David has worked as a behavioural optometrist with many children to improve learning difficulties, reduce visual dysfuntion and improve overall quality of vision through the development of individualised training programs. Whether it is eyesight, eye co-ordination and teaming or learning difficulties of many kinds, David can help.

Macular degeneration and Glaucoma are the most common sight threatening eye diseases in Australia and worldwide. Diabetic eye disease is becoming more prevalent with the increase of Diabetes in western culture.

As part of the complete eye assessment with David at ANU Eyecare, the presence of these and other sight threatening eye diseases is thoroughly analysed, with accuracy and care. Tests such as digital retina photography, retina thickness analysis and retina sensitivity analysis are employed and evaluated for age-appropriateness, as part of the comprehensive testing carried out. Your vision and eye health are in knowledgeable and caring hands, as David believes in keeping your eyes in the best condition possible for as long as possible.

David has always had an interest in assisting people with colour vision difficulties - the genetic form of these is referred to as colour vision deficiency/defect or colour blindness. Over the years as he has spent more time helping people with developmental vision difficulties he has found significant benefits from the use of different light colours or frequencies in improving vision development, function and efficiency. This is referred to as Syntonics.

Syntonics or optometric phototherapy, is the branch of ocular science that deals with the use of selected light frequencies through the eyes. It has been used for over 70 years in the field of optometry with particular success in the treatment of visual dysfunctions, including strabismus (eye turns), amblyopia (lazy eye), focusing and convergence problems, learning disorders, and the after effects of stress and trauma. In recent years, Syntonics has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of brain injuries and emotional disorders.

Colorimetry - or the use of coloured filters or tints - is another area of vision therapy in which David is highly experienced. Colorimetry is often associated with, but not limited to, 'dyslexia' and works when the appropriate tint is placed in front of the eyes to filter out certain problematic wavelengths of light. This can provide significant benefit to many people's visual function and efficiency. In addition to a special interest in helping people manage colour vision problems, David also has much experience in using colours to ‘switch-on’ visual systems, ‘switch-on’ brain function, assist with learning difficulties, migraines, ADHD, Aspergers, and other behavioural issues.
